I was invited by The Trading House in Glasgow to come along and sample the Sunday Roast and this invite had perfect timing to say the least. Sunday’s are famous for quality family time but for me Sunday is a workday; getting up early to get the kids sorted for the day then off to work at the office till 5. I honestly can’t remember the last time I sat down with my hubby and kids to enjoy a Sunday Roast as by the time I normally get home it’s usually bath time and bed for the little ones.

We made our way in early and had a walk around the city and of course the kids decided that they were getting bored and wanted to go for dinner! I went in at 2pm which was an hour earlier than planned. The staff were very accommodating and were more than happy to seat us early.

We were greeted by a lovely host at the door who took us to our table and checked for special requirements. We were introduced to our servers who made us feel at ease and took really good care of us and were very attentive throughout. My first impression of the Trading Place inside is that it’s really smart with some quirky decor like the coloured bottle lights above the tables and a live singer on the piano who was great. My daughter perked up when she heard him singing ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ from Toy story. Not that she was particularly down…she was deep in concentration creating a new masterpiece drawing!

We all had the Sunday Roast meal, which was fabulously cooked and well presented. I had the roast chicken with the most delicious Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and roast veggies. It’s the best roast I have had for a long time. The chicken really was delicious.

My other half opted for the roast beef. He thought it was a nice touch being asked if he wanted it pink or well done. All too often with roast beef in restaurants there’s no choice so he was pleased to not have a fabulous piece of beef turned into un-digestible shoe leather. Although each to their own…at least there’s a choice!

Roast Beef

The only issue I had was with my daughters kids chicken roast dinner. The chicken was on the bone with skin so I had to take the meat off for her. At 4 years old she wouldn’t have managed it. Apart from that she toughly enjoyed her dinner.

Kids Roast Dinner

Myself and Allan were completed stuffed and felt like undoing a few button so we really couldn’t manage a desert but the kids on the other hand did and they loved how it was presented. A little beach style ice cream with a bucket and spade. The ice cream was in the little bucket and crushed gingerbread biscuit was the sandpit. It was good fun for her to play and eat rather than just a boring old bowl of ice cream!

I used the baby change facility which was lovely and clean. The provide a box filled with things every mum or dad might need if caught short like nappies, talc, lotion, a baby book and a rattle. It the little touches like this that make such a difference when going out with the kids. So many places aren’t all that child friendly. Well done Trading House!

They have recently been awarded Scotland’s Best Cocktail Bar at the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards. It’s easy to see why! Despite not being able to manage a desert, we thought it would be rude to not try a cocktail each. My Blueberry Gin Crush was simply amazing and Allan described his Pineapple and Coconut Mojito as a tropical delight…or words to that effect! If you visit, please try a cocktail. You won’t be disappointed!

Cocktails

If cocktails aren’t your thing, Allan couldn’t believe the vast array of bottled beers on offer. Next to the cocktail menu at the table he found a little book containing a list of all the beers on offer, prices and tasting notes. He was like a kid in a sweet shop.

The Bar

I will be honest and say I haven’t heard of the Trading House before and I’ve walked right past it on many occasions. I’m so glad I now know where it is for future meals with the family or when I’m out and about with my friends. I will be back very soon…that Blueberry Gin Crush really was outstanding!!!!
